Suila VR ("the App") is a VR / 360° video player for iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro, developed in Taiwan by an independent developer ("the Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.
In short: Suila VR collects nothing. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. The App never uploads your videos, subtitles, or settings. It only connects to the internet when you ask it to: to your own NAS, or to download the sample video we made.
The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There is no account system, no login, and no user registration. Your data is never sent to the Developer.
The App plays videos that you bring to it: files you open from the Files app, folders you link (iCloud Drive, a USB drive, or an SMB share added in Files), videos you import from your photo library, and files you copy in from a computer. The App only accesses the files and folders you explicitly choose. Videos imported from Photos are copied into the App's own folder on your device; the original in your library is not modified. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Subtitle files, playback position, per-video settings and generated captions are stored locally on your device, next to the App's other data.
You can connect the App directly to an SMB server on your local network (for example a NAS). The connection goes from your device to your server; there is no server of the Developer in between, and no information about your NAS is sent to the Developer.
Server addresses and user names you enter are stored locally on your device. Passwords are stored in the device's Keychain and are marked so that they do not sync to iCloud Keychain and cannot leave the device. iOS asks for your permission before the App can find devices on your local network.
With your permission, the App uses the device's gyroscope and accelerometer to let you look around 360° videos by turning the phone, and to keep the picture level in headset mode. Motion data is used only in real time for that purpose. It is never stored and never transmitted.
The automatic caption feature transcribes the audio of the video you are watching. On iOS 26 this runs entirely on your device using Apple's on-device speech framework; caption translation uses Apple's on-device Translation framework. Your audio and subtitles are not sent to the Developer or to any third party. The first time you use a language, iOS may download that language's speech or translation model from Apple; this is an Apple feature governed by Apple's privacy policy.
The App can download a sample 360° video, filmed and converted by the Developer, so you can try the
App before you have footage of your own. The download is optional and only starts when you tap the
download button. The file is served from the Developer's own address (models.suila.app)
through Cloudflare's content delivery network. Like any web download, this request exposes your
IP address to that network in the ordinary course of delivering the file; the Developer does not
use it to identify you, does not store it together with any other information, and does not send any
other data with the request. No other network requests are made by the App on its own.
The App does not upload your videos or settings anywhere on its own. However, because files you copy into the App are saved in the App's folder on your device, they may be included in your own device backups — iCloud Backup, or a Mac/PC backup — if you have those turned on, exactly like the files of any other app. These are Apple features under your control; the Developer neither manages them nor has access to them.
The App contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party tracking. The App does not use Apple's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and does not present an App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Playback is free. Some features (direct NAS connection, automatic captions and translation, and video conversion) are unlocked by a single one-time in-app purchase, "Suila VR Pro", sold through Apple's App Store and shareable with your family through Family Sharing.
Apple processes the purchase. The Developer never sees your payment details, and the App does not send purchase information anywhere. Your purchase is held by Apple in your Apple Account; the App only checks with Apple whether the purchase exists and remembers the answer on your device. Refunds are handled by Apple under its Media Services Terms.
The App does not integrate any third-party advertising, analytics, or data-collection services. Standard Apple frameworks (such as Files, Photos, Core Motion, on-device Speech and Translation, and StoreKit) are used solely to provide the App's features and do not transmit your data to the Developer. The App includes the open-source libraries FFmpeg and libsmb2 (LGPL 2.1), which run entirely on your device and make no network connections other than the SMB connections you configure.
The App is not directed at children under 13. Because the App collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect information from children.
All videos, subtitles, credentials, and settings are stored locally on your device. The Developer has no access to this data. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data, including Keychain items it created.
